Alana Avery honored with Making a Difference Award

Alana Avery, second grade teacher at Mize Elementary, was recognized as the USD 232 Making a Difference Award recipient for the month of May during the district Convocation. The school district and the USD 232 Education Foundation cooperatively presented this award at the all-employee event on August 6. This monthly award is sponsored by Great American Bank in De Soto was created to celebrate the exceptional teachers and staff in USD 232 who are truly “making a difference in the lives of young people.”
Miss Avery has been a teacher in USD 232 district since 2017. She received a Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University where she was on the Honor Roll for eight semesters and on the Dean’s List for four semesters.
Here is a passage from her Making a Difference nomination:
“Miss Avery has not only taught my daughter school lessons but to love school and look forward to it each and every day! She has managed to keep school fun even in this crazy COVID year with masks! She’s the best teacher our daughter has had yet!! We love her!”
Thanks to Great American Bank who will be sponsoring the Making a Difference Award again for the 2021-22 school year! The USD 232 Education Foundation is currently accepting nominations for the next Making a Difference Award! Nominations will be received through the end of September 2021 with the next award being presented at the beginning of October.
