Information about ACT and SAT
-
All students who are attending a four-year university are required to take the ACT test. Students should first take the ACT test sometime in the spring semester of the junior year. For more information about registration and deadlines to sign up for the ACT, go to www.actstudent.org.
The ACT measures a student's aptitude in 4 different areas: English, Math, Reading, and Science. The ACT also offers an ACT Writing test, but that is only required by specific colleges/universities. Most public schools in the Midwest Region do not require the ACT Writing for college admission purposes.
Below are the ACT dates for the 2019-20 school year are:
- September 14, 2019*
- October 26, 2019*

The SAT is another college admission test. The SAT is not commonly taken by students who are attending colleges/universities in the Midwest, but is another test option. There are three areas on the SAT that students are tested on: Critical Reading, Critical Writing and Mathematics. Sometimes students do better on the SAT than the ACT and vice versa.
DHS does not administer the SAT test, but mnay of Olathe, Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission schools offer it.
